Pamela Grombacher

Event type:
The Nordic Guest Studio
When:
17 Sep 2020 to 24 Sep 2020

Pamela Grombacher is an independent curator based in Aarhus, Denmark. Currently her practice explores different ways of bringing artists together in collaborative research and exhibition making. This stems from her interest in questions around artistic labour - how it is valued, how it relates to other (feminized) forms of hidden work, and how to improve artists’ working conditions. Pam is Co-Director of Juxtapose Art Fair, a new gathering for the artist-run sector that will debut in June 2021. She is also Project Manager at Aarhus Billedkunstcenter, where she facilitates international networking and exchange, with a focus on residencies. Before moving to Aarhus, Pam was Associate Director at Meridian Gallery in San Francisco. In 2014, she graduated with an MA in History of Art, Design, and Visual Culture from University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.

Pam will focus her stay at NKF residency on researching the artist-run community in Stockholm. She will visit artist-run spaces around the city, and will then host a private workshop with a small group of artist administrators to discuss pressing issues in the artist-run sector. Pam will also meet with the Project Directors of Supermarket Art Fair to learn how they support local artist-run initiatives.

Throughout her stay Pam will also conduct studio visits with members of Flat Octopus, an artist- and curator-run collective that organizes exhibitions and events in private apartments. Outside of Flat Octopus, Pam will meet with artists who share her interest in artist working conditions. These meetings will function as research for an ongoing project that aims to create empathy for art workers.

Pam will begin her residency with a public talk, where she will outline her current projects and research interests.
