Eva-Teréz Gölin is invited to the Nordic Guest Studio by artist duo Joel Hurlburt and Timo Menke. The studio will function as a place to deepen and develop the joint artistic collaboration project Blind Atlas, which emerged in 2021 as an exchange of ideas between Eva-Teréz Gölin and the artist duo Joel Hurlburt and Timo Menke. Eva-Teréz will work on a new video project utilizing an automated process built on machine learning to edit appropriated video material frame by frame. During her time in residency, Eva-Teréz will also open a solo show at Galleri Duerr in Stockholm.
Eva-Teréz Gölin is a visual artist based in Gothenburg. Her background in professional image editing and fine art printing forms the foundation for her artistic process. She utilizes various digital processes, often automated and based on machine vision and machine learning. Through the use of these procedures she questions concepts such as vision, perception, and the relationship to reality, usually attributed to the medium of photography. Eva-Teréz holds an MFA in photography from The Valand Academy in Gothenburg and has also studied a post-graduate course at The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.
Joel Hurlburt & Timo Menke have collaborated since 2017 on a process-based project utilizing volumetric video, a film technology that makes it possible to film places, characters and movements while including depth, resulting vaguely three dimensional video forms. Bodies appear at once hollow and spatial, midway between surface and object, image and space. In the collaboration, their interest in spatial events as well as moving images meet, and how both digital and analog tools shape and reshape our perception of reality. Menkes and Hurlburt's joint work has taken on different formats and been shown in exhibitions as well as at film festivals.
