OPEN CALL FOR ARTIST RESIDENCIES 2027- 2028 for locally based artists, curators or art institutions/spaces to invite a guest for a one-month residency at NKF's guest studio
APPLICATION FORM FOR ARTIST RESIDENCIES 2027-2028
Who can apply?
The residency is based on a host–guest principle. Artists, curators, art institutions, and art spaces based in Stockholm or the Stockholm region may apply to host a guest or collaborator for a one-month residency, either at a research stage or coinciding with a public presentation or exhibition production.
Guests may work across all art forms and practices, and at any stage of their careers.
For 2027, nine residency slots are available. For 2028, five residency slots are available.
Each spanning approximately four weeks.
Shorter stays are also possible – please indicate this in your application.
Location: NKF’s Guest Studio, Nytorget 15, Stockholm, Sweden
Application deadline: 15 September 2026 (applications received after this date will not be considered)
Duration: Four weeks (shorter stays possible)
Residency fee: SEK 2000 for artists/curators, SEK 6000 for institutions. A sliding scale may apply for smaller institutions with little or no funding.
Important: Applications without a host cannot be considered. As a nonprofit organization, NKF requires applicants to have a host who can provide support during the residency.
The Nordic Art Association (NKF) runs a residency programme in its guest studio, centrally located at Nytorget in Södermalm Stockholm, Sweden.
Residency and public dissemination
Between seven and ten residencies are offered each year. The residencies last four weeks. If a project requires a shorter stay, please state this in your application.
NKF encourages public dissemination during the residency. This dissemination may take many forms, such as an informal presentation, a dinner, an open studio, a walk, a talk, or in collaboration with other local institutions. NKF strives to create dialogues and connections between the residency guests and regional networks, local artists and curators, and institutions.
Funding
Unfortunately, NKF cannot currently offer funded residencies. However, we are happy to provide invitation letters for external funding applications.
NKF's residency programme
NKF is a nonprofit organisation run by artists and curators. NKF supports the development of current projects, interdisciplinary collaborations and research, and the blossoming and unfolding of new ideas and work. NKF cherishes processes where experimentation can occur, and the focus need not always be on an outcome or a "traditional" production cycle. The residency is centrally located in a building dating from the 1680s at Nytorget in Stockholm. The residency apartment consists of a large studio space and basic living quarters, including a fully equipped kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. The building has a cultural-historical value and was initially built as a textile factory accompanied by gardens. Since the 1960s, the premises have served as artists' studios, housing about twenty studios for artists today.
Selection
Residency applicants are selected by NKF's executive and advisory board, consisting of professional artists and curators working in Sweden and internationally. NKF aims for a residency programme that is open, inclusive and welcoming to all and continues to converse and develop how they work towards achieving greater equality and representation in the constellation of the board and residency guests. NKF encourages slow travel where possible. Unfortunately, NKF cannot provide feedback on applications.
