Catalina Barroso-Luque

Event type:
The Nordic Guest Studio
When:
24 Apr 2023 to 25 May 2023

NKF are very pleased to introduce our current artist in residence and collarborator/host in Stockholm:

Catalina Barroso-Luque #catalinabarrosoluque is invited to the Nordic Guest Studio by ferwenn Feronia Wennborg to collaboratively develop 'Underworlds', a project exploring techno-mythology, hybridity, storytelling and the voice.

The artists’ research looks into Mesoamerican and Nordic myths related to the sky, the underworld, death, and rebirth, focusing on cycles of transformation and the imaginary landscapes in which these stories take place. During the residency, they will work on experiments in script writing, sound patterning and digital voice processing, informed by how myths were recorded orally and through drawing. They will host an event at NKF drawing from this research (date will be announced shortly).

Catalina Barroso-Luque (MX) constructs narratives inhabited by voices, images, bodies and objects. Different mediums are interwoven to create stories and spaces that oscillate between fantastic/real, character/texture. Recent work includes poetic retellings of myths related to fertility and death, incorporating New Age, femme and sci-fi aesthetics within sound, drawing and sculpture. Catalina also writes in English and Spanish, often working with processes of translation and performativity.

Feronia Wennborg (SE) works across sound, performance, installation and digital media. Her practice draws from points of intimacy to explore possibilities of reimagination. Working with material embedded in everyday life, Feronia works through processes of transcription, translation and digital transformation.
