CRIS is happy to announce Sylvie Fortin (CA) as our first guest of the year at the Nordic Guest Studio.
Sylvie Fortin is a curator, researcher, critic and editor. She was Executive/Artistic Director of La Biennale de Montréal (2013-2017) and Executive Director/Editor of the Atlanta-based ART PAPERS (2007-2012). She also initiated Pass, the journal of the International Biennial Association, and edited its inaugural issue (2018).
For her on-going curatorial research of the currencies of hospitality, she is currently based in the Balkans. She will be living in North Africa-Southern Europe and US-Mexico next year. She is also editing a special issue of Public (Toronto) in 2020.
Curatorial Residency in Stockholm (CRIS) is a collaboration between the Nordic Art Association in Sweden and Jonatan Habib Engqvist, curator and writer. It was conceived in 2015 as free-space for curators. Previous guests have been: Elena Agudio (IT), Riksa Afiati (D), Abir Boukhari (SY), Övul O. Durmusoglu (TU), Marina Fokidis (GR), Eva González-Sancho (ES), Juha Huskonen (FI), Adam Kleinmann (US) Lorenzo Sandoval (ES), Viktorija Šiaulytė (ES), Marina Vale Noronha (BRA), Amara Antilla (US), Basak Senova (TR), Joanna Sokołowska (PL), Berit Schuck (DE/EG), Iaroslav Volov (RU). CRIS has also been able to send Swedish curators to Egypt, Finland, Iceland, Iran and Turkey.
The project has been supported from multiple sources, including Nordisk Kulturfond, the Swedish Arts Council, the city of Stockholm, Institut français de Suède, the Spanish embassies in Stockholm, Oslo and Tallinn, The Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center, Kultur Skåne, Tjeckiska centret Stockholm, Danish Arts Foundation as well as several local collaborations.
