Welcome to an informal talk with Inesa Brasiske about her curatorial practices in the context of Lithuanian contemporary art scene.
Inesa Brasiske is an art historian, lecturer, and curator holding MA in Modern and Contemporary Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies (MODA) from Columbia University, New York. She has contributed to a number of publications on modern and contemporary art, and curated exhibitions and events, including a solo exhibition of Sharon Lockhart Rudzienko (2019), a film program of Babette Mangolte (2018), and a group show Grazed Images (2015), all at the Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius. Since 2013, Inesa has been organizing lecture series, dedicated to contemporary art and theory Thinking Contemporary Art, the recent edition of which deals with the complex relations of art, technology, and politics in times of cognitive conflicts. Her most recent art historical research focus on conceptual art, institutional critique, and artistic counter-conduct in the 60s and 70s Europe and US, as well as on Lithuanian émigré artists working in New York in the postwar years. She was co-founder of the project space The Gardens (2012-2014) which held a curatorial residency at Art in General (New York) and was nominated for the ICI Independent Vision Curatorial Award in 2012.

Inesa Brasiske's residency at the Nordic guest studio takes place in collaboration with the Lithuanian Culture Institute in Stockholm.
Curatorial Residency in Stockholm (CRIS) is a collaboration between the Nordic Art Association in Sweden and Jonatan Habib Engqvist, curator and writer. It was conceived in 2015 as free-space for curators. Previous guests: Elena Agudio (IT), Riksa Afiati (D), Abir Boukhari (SY), Övul O. Durmusoglu (TU), Marina Fokidis (GR), Sylvie Fortin (CA), Eva González-Sancho (ES), Juha Huskonen (FI), Adam Kleinmann (US) Lorenzo Sandoval (ES), Viktorija Šiaulytė (ES), Marina Vale Noronha (BRA), Amara Antilla (US), Basak Senova (TR), Joanna Sokołowska (PL), Berit Schuck (DE/EG), Maria-Thalia Carras & Olga Hatzidaki, Locus Athens (GR), Iaroslav Volov (RU). CRIS has also been able to send Swedish curators to Egypt, Finland, Iceland, Iran and Turkey.
The project has been supported from multiple sources, including Nordisk Kulturfond, the Swedish Arts Council, the city of Stockholm, Institut français de Suède, the Spanish embassies in Stockholm, Oslo and Tallinn, The Estonian Contemporary Art Development Center, Kultur Skåne, Tjeckiska centret Stockholm, Danish Arts Foundation as well as several local collaborations.
