Sanem Odabaşı

Event type:
The Nordic Guest Studio
When:
29 Jul 2025

We are happy to welcome Sanem Odabaşı to the Nordic guest studio in August.

Sanem Odabaşı (b. 1989, Eskişehir) is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice explores themes of time, nature, and memory. Through textile surfaces, repair techniques, natural dyes, and poetic visual language, she traces the enduring imprints of life. She is drawn to the quiet, the minimal, and the resonant—working with overlooked objects, traces, and textures, which she reinterprets through a contemporary aesthetic lens.

As a researcher, her work engages with sustainable fashion, collective memory, and archival approaches. Her books Fashion, Upcycling, and Memory and Sürdürülebilir Moda Tasarımı: Kavramlar ve Uygulamalar contribute to critical discourse in these areas. She is the co-founder and co-author of the open-source glossary Sürdürülebilir Moda Lisanı – The Language of Sustainable Fashion, which seeks to develop a pluralistic vocabulary for sustainability.

Her work has been shown at venues such as Bellewether (New York), Ferda Art Platform, BASE İstanbul, and Gala Gallery. Her first solo exhibition, Traveler’s Dower(2017), centred on the concepts of trace and carrying; her second, Things (2022), explored layered narratives around object, body, and time. In 2024, she presented Between Two Gardens, a collaborative duo exhibition with Swedish artist Andreas Ribbung at Eldem Sanat Alanı/FIRIN, offering a poetic lens on the complex relationships between humans and nature.

Odabaşı is also a faculty member at Eskişehir Technical University, where she continues to explore a pluralistic language of production at the intersection of art and academia.

Sanem Odabaşı is invited to the NKF Guest Studio by the collaborator Candyland for an exhibition which opens 22 August.
The residency and exhibition is funded by SAHA, Candyland and NKF.
